Finch tube feeder

I am a beginner. I put out my finch tube feeder and filled it with fresh Nyjer. It has been 2 weeks and no birds!
Am I doing something wrong? My next door neighbor has a tube feeder too and she has lots of finches..her feeder is out of sight of my feeder. I also want to know if I should hang my hummingbird feeder or wait until Spring? I live in Ohio. This post has received 2 votes up.

You may want to examine the quality of the seed. Nyjer® dries out quickly. Make sure to buy seed that has a strong black color. Finches won’t feed on brown, old looking seed. Store your fresh Nyjer® in the freezer until you’re ready to use it. This helps preserve the seed, preventing it from drying out until it goes into your finch feeders. It’s a good idea to buy Nyjer® on an as-needed basis; purchase a seed quantity that the birds in your yard will consume within a month or so. If oil doesn’t come out when you pinch a seed with your fingernail, it’s not fresh and the finches won’t enjoy it.
As for nectar feeders, I don’t believe any species winter in Ohio. In the chance that there are some late migrants in the region, just make sure to bring your nectar feeders indoors at night so it does not freeze. This post has received 2 votes up.

Add two more tube feeders to your area and put sunflower hearts in one and a Finch food mix in the other. You will have lots of birds, not just Finch. This post has received 1 vote up.

what is sunflower hearts

It is Pre-shelled Sunflower seeds. Some birds don’t have the beak strength to open Sunflower seeds to get to the heart, so often they sell pre-shelled sunflower seed. I use BOS (Black Oil Sunflower seed) and that works really well, but the pre-shelled is definitely the favorite because it is easier to consume.

I’ve read a review about Perky-Pet 399, and they said this product attract goldfinches. Therefore I decided to buy this feeder.
I have been using this bird feeder for a little over a month now, and have never attracted so many goldfinches!
