II had many of these birds at my feeders during this summer in NorthEast Minnesota. One day I saw 3 of them at one time on my feeders and one was feeding the others. It was really cute. I am not sure what they are though. They are just a little smaller than a Robin. This picture is kind of close up. The birds are a brownish color. What is it?
My best guess, is that you are seeing female Red-Winged Blackbirds! I get a few every once in a while, but when they come, I enjoy watching them. Naturally, the males are blacker with their red epaulets, while the females are brown and streaky, as you described. You should look for more pictures of them, just in case this is not what you are seeing. Good Luck!
